Dental Care

We are dedicated to keeping your pet’s mouth healthy. This has been a long-overlooked part of your pet’s overall health, comfort level, and lifeexpectancy. Dental disease is one of the most common illnesses we see here at Downtown Animal Hospital, and it can cause tooth loss, bone loss, and even organ disease. The good news is it’s entirely preventable!

We offer a range of state-of-the-art and safe dental services for your dog or cat. We will make sure they get the care they deserve.

Hip Arthritis in Dogs

Physiotherapy, medicinal, and alternative therapy can help older dogs and cats with arthritis. We provide individualized and phenomenal care for sore hips, joints, elbows, backs, and torn cruciate ligaments. It’s important to use screening radiographs for hip dysplasia in puppyhood. If the hips are found to be abnormal, there is a lot that we can do in order to prevent or limit the painful consequences of arthritis in your pet. We are passionate about helping your pet enjoy this wonderful benefit.
PennHIP Procedure

At Downtown Animal Hospital, we are devoted to less invasive and painful spays and neuters. We offer Laparoscopy as an alternative to traditional scalpel surgery for your pet. In Laparoscopy, we use a fibre optic telescope and camera in order to visualize different areas within a patient. With these incredible tools, we can explore and perform surgical procedures and obtain biopsies within your pet’s abdomen and bladder. We can also examine and obtain biopsies from your pet’s nasal cavity. Studies have shown abdominal surgery using this technology to be 66% less painful for your pet.

This is a wonderful minimally invasive technique, and represents the future of veterinary surgical care. Laparoscopy is used in human medicine in nearly every single instance where it can eliminate the need for open abdominal surgery. The most common laparoscopic surgical procedure performed in our hospital is a spay, and we are excited to be among the first clinics in Canada to offer the option of a laparoscopic spay to our clients.

We understand life can get hectic, so we are committed to accommodating your busy schedule! We are open for medical consultations Monday through Saturday (including evenings!). And if your pet is unable to come to our animal hospital, we can provide other options.

Every new or sick pet we examine is scheduled for a thirty-minute appointment. After your consultation with our Veterinarians, a Registered Veterinary Technician will come and speak with you to make sure that you fully understand and are comfortable with every aspect of the available treatment options and the plan we believe to be best for your pet.

We are excited to offer cutting-edge surgical methods that reduce pain, risk of surgical complications, and inflammation. Radiosurgery is an alternative to the traditional scalpel. This technology is widely adopted in human medical specialties due to the benefits of decreased bleeding, swelling and post-surgical pain.

Ultrasonography and Specialist Consultations

We believe it’s important to offer your pet minimally invasive and more economical ways of seeing inside your pet, so that we don’t have to use surgery as a diagnostic tool. We are proud to have an in-house ultrasound, and we consult with specialists so that your pet can receive highly accurate and timely diagnostics. Through telemedicine, we are able to transmit x-rays and ultrasound images to specialists who are world-renowned.

Ultrasonography allows for the real time visualization of various internal structures and biological processes. Unlike with x-rays, ultrasound imaging allows us to see the tissue architecture within organs. We can visualize the heart’s pumping process, and make accurate measurements of various structures within your pet’s body. It is also an incredible way to obtain biopsy samples.

Your pet will have access to the best veterinary minds in the world, and a report can be sent to us within 20 minutes of your pet’s data reaching the specialist.
